Depot pricing: plans, runner rates and how it compares with GitHub-hosted

Depot sells plans with included minutes, then bills extra GitHub Actions minutes at a flat $0.006 per minute on the Developer and Startup plans. Its smallest Linux runner is priced the same as GitHub's 2-core Linux runner, so the case for Depot rests on build speed, caching and unlimited concurrency rather than a lower per-minute rate.

Plans also include Docker build minutes (500 / 5,000) and Depot CI minutes (2,000 / 20,000). Extra usage on Developer and Startup: GitHub Actions $0.006/min, Docker builds $0.04/min, cache storage $0.20/GB/month. SSO (SAML and SCIM) is listed as an optional $500/month add-on. Storage is cache plus registry. Build concurrency is unlimited on every plan.

§ 02

GitHub Actions runner rates by size

Depot publishes a per-minute price and a minutes multiplier for each runner label. Larger runners use up included minutes faster in proportion to the multiplier.

RunnerCPUsMemoryPer-minute priceMinutes multiplier
depot-ubuntu-24.0428 GB$0.0061x[3]

Linux sizes run to 64 CPUs ($0.192/min); Windows to 64 CPUs ($0.256/min). Intel runners use AMD EC2 instances; Arm runners use Graviton4. macOS runners run on M2 (macOS 14 and 15) or M4 (macOS 26). Depot notes its macOS capacity is not fully elastic, so macOS jobs can queue at busy times.

§ 03

Depot against GitHub-hosted runners

Per-minute rates for the nearest comparable runner on each side. Depot's x86 Linux runner matches GitHub's price; its Arm runner costs more than GitHub's Arm runner; its Windows runner costs less.

RunnerDepotGitHub-hostedDifference
Linux x86, 2 CPU$0.006[3]$0.006 (2-core)[4]same
Linux x86, 4 CPU$0.012[3]$0.012 (4-core)[4]same
Linux x86, 8 CPU$0.024[3]$0.022 (8-core)[4]+9%
Linux Arm, 2 CPU$0.006[3]$0.005 (2-core arm64)[4]+20%
Windows, 2 CPU$0.008[3]$0.010 (2-core)[4]-20%
macOS (Depot 8 CPU vs GitHub 3-4 core)$0.08[3]$0.062[4]+29% (different hardware)

Difference = Depot rate against the GitHub-hosted rate in the same row; negative means Depot is cheaper per minute. GitHub rates from our GitHub Actions pricing page, re-read from GitHub's docs on 1 October 2026. Shapes are not identical across vendors, so compare like with like where a row says so.

WORKED EXAMPLE: 25,000 Linux x86 minutes a month on the 2 CPU runner

GitHub-hosted (25,000 x $0.006)$150/mo
Depot Developer ($20 + 23,000 x $0.006)$158/mo
Depot Startup ($200 + 5,000 x $0.006)$230/mo

List prices only. The GitHub figure is before any minutes your GitHub plan includes, which would lower it further. Developer is a single-user plan, so a team would be on Startup.

On price alone Depot does not undercut GitHub-hosted Linux. At 25,000 minutes the Startup plan costs $80 a month more than the same minutes on GitHub's 2-core runner. The money case only works if Depot's faster runners and cache cut enough wall-clock minutes to close that gap, and that depends on your workload, so measure a representative set of jobs before switching.

Windows is the one runner where Depot's list price is lower than GitHub's, by 20% on the 2 CPU size.

§ 04

Billing details that change the bill

!

Included minutes are not a hard cap: usage beyond them bills at $0.006 per minute on Developer and Startup.[2]

!

macOS runners are only available on the Startup and Business plans. The Developer plan offers Linux and Windows.[2]

!

Larger runners consume included minutes at their multiplier (a 4 CPU Linux runner at 2x, 8 CPU at 4x), so 20,000 included minutes buy 5,000 minutes on an 8 CPU runner. The 2 CPU Windows runner also carries a 2x multiplier.[3]

!

Usage is tracked by the second with no one-minute minimum per run, and totalled at the end of the billing period.[2]

Frequently asked questions

How much does Depot cost?+
Depot's Developer plan is $20 a month for one user with 2,000 GitHub Actions minutes included. The Startup plan is $200 a month for unlimited users with 20,000 GitHub Actions minutes included. Business is custom-priced. Extra GitHub Actions minutes on Developer and Startup cost $0.006 per minute. Figures read from depot.dev on 1 October 2026.
Is Depot cheaper than GitHub-hosted runners?+
Not per minute on Linux. Depot's 2 CPU Linux runner is $0.006 per minute, the same as GitHub's 2-core Linux runner, and Depot's 2 CPU Arm runner at $0.006 costs more than GitHub's $0.005 Arm runner. Depot's 2 CPU Windows runner at $0.008 is 20% below GitHub's $0.010. Any saving on Linux has to come from jobs finishing faster.
Does Depot have a free tier?+
Depot's pricing pages list a 7-day free trial on any plan with no credit card required. They do not list a permanent free tier.
How much are Depot macOS runners?+
Depot's macOS runners (8 CPU, 24 GB, Apple M2 or M4) are $0.08 per minute. They are available on the Startup and Business plans, not on Developer.
Is there a concurrency limit on Depot?+
No. Depot lists unlimited build concurrency on all three plans, and its GitHub Actions documentation states there are no concurrency limits, cache size limits or network limits.
